Benjamin Zephaniah Building, Birmingham City University
Birmingham, United Kingdom
Named in honour of the late Birmingham poet, the Benjamin Zephaniah Building is the home of Birmingham City University’s Education and Communities courses.
The building offers key facilities for staff and students, including primary and secondary science labs, art, innovation and Lego teaching rooms, and flexible spaces for design and technology, alongside general teaching rooms.
As part of a recent renovation, Thorlux updated the lighting system throughout the building, providing a modern, high-efficiency lighting scheme that uses the latest SmartScan wireless technology.
The supremely versatile Flexbar linear luminaire is used in office spaces, meeting rooms, labs, and teaching spaces, where it has been both surface-mounted and suspended depending on the requirement. Vertically mounted Kast wall luminaires are used in stairwells throughout the building, while Lexi illuminated exit signs provide self-testing emergency escape signage.
Birmingham City University is a long-standing Thorlux customer, and Thorlux luminaires are used widely in BCU premises across the city.
