Materials Project Engineer

We have a new and exciting position available within our Material Project team.

You will be required to technically support the Materials Project Management function. To coordinate the bought-out item buying activities for special projects/new products and ensure the effective use of Company materials.

Main Tasks:

  • Project manage the introduction of new products and associated tooling. (die casting, injection moulding, extrusion etc)
  • Provide technical support to the Senior Materials Project Engineer.
  • Set up the systems and ERP database for the on-going purchase of new products.
  • Liaise with the Technical Department on processes, technologies and costs available outside the company.
  • Negotiate and set-up capital equipment purchases and on-going service contracts.
  • Maintain the tooling management programme.
  • Manage the phase out of obsolete products and bought-out piece parts.
  • Support the Value Analysis teams and conduct cost benefit investigations.
  • Ensure suppliers conform to required quality standards. Communicate with suppliers to ensure that issues with non-conforming parts are resolved and permanent corrective actions implemented.
  • Improve, maintain and establish the Company Purchasing policies and procedures in line with ISO requirements.
  • Conform to the company policies and standards.

Planner / Buyer

Here at Thorlux Lighting we are looking to expand our team with a dedicated Planner / Buyer who has an experienced and varied background within Purchasing and is looking to further strengthen and develop their skills. You will be required to schedule, control and purchase bought out items to meet customer and manufacturing order requirements. To set up and maintain the bought-out planning information on M3.

Main Tasks:

  • Use MRP to schedule, control and purchase bought-out items to meet internal/external customer and manufacturing order requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers and Internal Departments to ensure material is acquired to meet production requirements.
  • Prepare Purchase Orders / Schedules.
  • Advise Management of potential production shortages and problems. Proactively expedite items and propose/implement alternative solutions when necessary to meet customer demand.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Modification Notes related to your respective parts. Optimise the phase in and phase out process ensuring an absolute minimum in obsolete parts.
  • Work with suppliers to reduce costs and improve delivery/quality performance.
  • Work with Stores / Quality / suppliers to effectively disposition and process non-conforming parts.
  • Maintain bought-out material planning data, including costs, for the assigned product groups.
  • Continually optimise bought-out item raw material and purchased component stock levels to maximize product availability and minimize cost.
  • Co-ordinate sub-contract manufacture with Stores, Production Control and suppliers.
  • Advise on component lead times and availability for current orders / new enquiries.
  • Manage slow moving / obsolete stock in accordance with Company policies.
  • Ensure observance of Company policies and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential requirements:

  • Grade C or above in Maths and English.
  • IT literate.
  • Ability to work accurately, prioritise and remain calm under pressure.
  • A strong team player.
  • Experience in a Materials / Purchasing environment is essential along with a minimum of 3 years in a similar role.

Contracts Engineer

Due to yet further expansion we are actively recruiting for a new Contracts Engineer / Contracts Manager to manage the supply and installation projects from conception to completion, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget.

Your primary duty will be to manage the project delivery of Thorlux supply and installation projects. You will be required to work closely with the Business Development Project Winning Team, to ensure a smooth handover to installation delivery. The role will require managing several projects concurrently, as the order book dictates, as required across the UK. Travel to these sites as required and the expectation is that you will be at Thorlux HQ once a week for two days.

Main Tasks

  • Development of a robust Project Delivery Process for the Business Development Projects Team.
  • Customer and installer contract negotiation and completion.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance against contract requirements.
  • Management of projects and the Thorlux sub-contractor ensuring projects are installed and commissioned in a safe and professional manner, on time and profitably to include:
  • Health and Safety compliance.
  • Problem resolution.
  • On-time product delivery and installation.
  • Managing communication flow to all parties.
  • Management of project changes – such as luminaire schedules, quantities etc.
  • Achievement of guaranteed savings where applicable.
  • Compliance to contract requirements.
  • Attendance at site meetings when required for progress, compliance and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Manage variations from the original scope.
  • Co-ordinate the measurement and verification process where required.
  • Project cost tracking.
  • Weekly review meeting management.
  • Monthly status report.
  • Compile snagging list and ensure works are carried out to deadlines prior to handover
  • Gain Practical Completion status on all projects in an efficient timescale

Essential Requirements

  • Electrical project experience, in particular large scale lighting works.
  • Electrical qualifications
  • HNC/HND Electrical Engineering or Degree
  • BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Testing and Inspecting 2391
  • Experience of NEC contracts
  • Project contract experience
  • Sub-Contractor management experience
