Barnsley MBC Car Parks

Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is a large local authority in South Yorkshire. The council owns and operates several multi-storey car parks across the borough, including at the £60 million Gateway Plaza property development and the Council-owned Alhambra Shopping Centre.

Thorlux Lighting has worked with Barnsley Council to deliver new installations, retrofit upgrades, and relighting projects, including at Alhambra and, more recently, Gateway Plaza.

The multi-story car park at Alhambra has six split levels, including a split-level roof deck. It has 482 parking spaces, with dedicated parking bays for persons with disabilities and parents with babies. Thorlux worked closely with Barnsley MBC to provide a full supply and install turnkey solution, overseen by the in-house Thorlux Major Projects team. This streamlined the process of upgrading the lighting, which meant the council had a single point of contact for the entire project.

Thorlux has now supplied and installed over 530 luminaires in total on the site. The award-winning Thorlux SmartScan wireless lighting management system controls every luminaire, providing full operational reporting to site managers who can access energy usage information and target maintenance to reduce downtime.

Meanwhile, Thorlux has recently overseen and delivered the lighting upgrade at the 540-space Gateway Plaza car park, again providing SmartScan controls and increased luminaire efficiency, with all aspects of the works overseen by the Major Projects department.
