New in-house packaging capability at Thorlux

In a significant investment in its packaging and dispatch department, Thorlux Lighting has recently installed a new box-making machine at its Redditch, UK manufacturing facility.
The new Panotec machine can cut, crease, and perforate up to ten cardboard boxes per minute, depending on the required size and shape. Bringing packaging manufacturing in-house means Thorlux now has the flexibility to produce boxes to order, making specific packaging for luminaires and equipment at the point of shipping. This capability eliminates wasteful stockpiling and saves valuable space.
Thorlux only uses 100% recycled, biodegradable, FSC-certified cardboard to ensure the highest level of sustainability. Furthermore, card offcuts are baled and recycled.
Thorlux anticipates it will produce approximately half a million boxes on-site each year. Besides reducing waste and overstocking, the new equipment will increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness and is expected to pay for itself in just two years.
